The Fall of the Upper East Side
 By Jack Posner ’15

Did you like Asphalt Green?  What about Carl Schulz?  Well I’m afraid to say they’re about to fall to ruins.  The cause?  The proposed Upper East Side garbage dump.  Ten floors, it will have a gantry crane and pier station.  In sight of the East River,  marine life around the proposed dump will be harmed and pollution will be spread.  It will be right next to the Asphalt Green soccer field and two public schools.  Is this sanitary for the air?  I don’t think so! Polluted air equals coughing and sickness.  If the dump is created 500 to 700 trucks will travel to and from it daily! To make matters even worse, the new mega-dump will be installed in the third-most-densely populated ZIP code in the United States!!! One effect of the dump that scares me is the rats, the flea, carrying disease ridden rats.  The ones that are attracted to trash!  They’ll be in heaven, crawling on our streets, coming into our homes. This is nonsense!  My resolution, keep the trash going to New Jersey.  Oh, I’m sorry, that costs more?  No.  It will cost more to build the new structure instead of sending our trash to New Jersey like we already do.  My simple plan, keep the trash away from my home!
